You or someone you know may be wanting to improve your game especially if you are just starting out in chess.
Chances are there might be one opponent that you want to win but somehow you are losing most of the time to this opponent by making some mistakes. Remember mistakes are part of learning here are some tips to help you to get better at chess this is no means an exhaustive list but a short list of major focus areas.
1. Mobilize your pieces so that you have more space where you can freely move to and fro. This is usually done by moving pawns that may be standing in the way of bishops.
2. Curtail the squares controlled by enemy pieces. A simple move like h6 or a6(if you're playing black) can restrict the movement of your enemy bishop.
3. Don't bring the rook early on in the game there isn't much room for that big boy to move around.
4. Early development of queen is also a mistake that beginners make you could get your queen trapped if you are not aware of the pitfalls.
5. Control the center by marching your e pawn or d pawn two steps ahead this will give you the support to set up outposts(like bishop and knight)
6. Be familiar with opening traps and miniatures this will either help you to gain quick victories or will help you to avoid losing if your opponent is trying one on you.
7. For beginners it is better to play aggressively assuming you are not playing against a grand master you can win more games.
8. Set aside time for learning chess everyday because think about it if you are going to spend all day playing you are not going improve your game. You will find yourself playing the same patterns over and over.
9. Don't be afraid of losing. Record and analyse the game and correct the mistakes
10. If you are serious about improving your game get a coach. A coach can point out where you are going wrong and will also motivate you along the way.
